We are students from Sheares Hall Overseas Community Service Project, representing Sheares Hall in National University of Singapore (NUS). We are organising an overseas community service project, known as Project Sawasdee to Chiang Mai, Thailand in May this year. We are partnered with YMCA Chiang Mai, to assist the less fortunate people in Chiang Mai by equipping them with basic relevant skills that will help improve their standard of living. Through all of this we also hope to strengthen the values and morals of our members and to inculcate a sense of social responsibility in ourselves and to become better individuals. This year, we will be heading to Baan Pa-Ngkiw Village which is located at Ta-nua Sub-district, Mae-On District, approximately 50 kilometres from Chiang Mai City. Baan Pa-Ngkiw is a small village and is located in forested highlands. The village consists of a population of 320 people with 72 households. Most of the villages work in the agricultural industry. Therefore, the income of the community comes mostly from the sale of agricultural products, which we all know is unstable and determined by natural disasters and changing seasons. We will be assisting in the construction of a community centre, where the children and people of the village can come together to hold meetings and also act as a resource to further their education. We are also seeking to equip the community centre with educational materials, such as maps, posters and books. In addition to this we will be educating the villagers on personal hygiene and also be teaching English and Mandarin to students in a nearby high school. We are currently seeking either cash or product contributions from organisations like yours. Should you share the same vision as us and decide to join us in our venture, the funds will go into purchasing the materials needed for the construction of the community centre and also to obtain the required educational materials. In recognition of your efforts, we will help to raise awareness of your company by printing out your logo on our banners and T-shirts. We will also publicise your company in our hall's Facebook group which is regularly used by at least 500 residents.
We aim to raise funds to purchase construction and teaching materials to benefit those in need in Thailand. We understand that we as Singaporeans are sheltered and do not know of the needs beyond our borders. We hope to strengthen the values and morals of our members and to inculcate a sense of social responsibility in ourselves and to become better individuals.
